GS8524 Pixel Protocol

Manufacturer: Genesis-Systech

The GS8524 is a Genesis-Systech DMX512 LED driver IC in an SSOP10 package that decodes a standard DMX512 signal to drive an RGBW (4-channel) pixel at 16-bit grayscale with a 9.5kHz refresh rate.

Specifications

Physical PackageSSOP10
RGBNo
RGBWYes
Output Pixel Voltage7 to 30V
PWM Rate9.5kHz
Suitable CameraSuitable for typical broadcast/cinema frame rates
Redundant Data LineNo (DMX bus)

Strengths

  • 16-bit (65536-level) grayscale per channel for smooth, high-resolution dimming
  • Native RGBW (4-channel) output, adding a dedicated white channel alongside red, green and blue
  • Wide 7 to 30V operating range plus automatic address coding for easier DMX line setup

Limitations

  • As a DMX512 driver IC it depends on a proper DMX512 control signal and addressing scheme, rather than a simple single-wire cascade
  • Documentation has limited English-language datasheet presence, so integration detail may require the first-party Chinese specification

Overview

The GS8524 is a DMX512 LED driver IC from Genesis-Systech (Shenzhen Junlue Technology). Rather than decoding a single-wire self-clocked pixel protocol, it receives a standard DMX512 control signal and drives four output channels (RGBW) with 16-bit (65536-level) grayscale per channel. It operates across a wide 7 to 30V supply range, comes in a compact SSOP10 package, and includes automatic address coding to simplify per-fixture addressing on a DMX line. Its 9.5kHz PWM refresh rate places it comfortably within the range suited to typical broadcast and cinema frame rates. Because it is a DMX512 decoder rather than a custom pixel chip, it is driven directly by any ENTTEC DMX512 source. ENTTEC is not affiliated with Genesis-Systech.

Compatible ENTTEC controllers

ENTTEC has been engineering lighting control in Australia since 1999, and shipping LED pixel controllers since the original Pixelator in 2014.
