Hardware-style interface

Designed with live performances in mind, EMU’s hardware-style user interface is quick to learn and easy to use. Upgrade from DMXIS or start from scratch with ease.

EMU’s intuitive, tempo-based approach allows for the synchronisation of lighting and music with oscillators in real time.

Attribute selector

With a fixture attribute manager for fast access to selecting intensity, strobe, position and colour and features including, lock, invert and duplicate along with a number of handy keyboard shortcuts, building your show is a breeze. Create static looks, dynamic chases & moving effects using virtual sliders to control each light’s parameters.

Thanks to its ‘Bank & Program’-based logic to store each look, EMU makes it familiar and easy for musicians to enter the world of lighting control without a steep learning curve.

Touch-friendly operation

All controls have large clickable areas, perfect for use with touchscreens.

Control any DMX-512 fixture

Whether you want to control LED washes, moving heads, dimmer packs, smoke machines, scanners, moonflowers… You name it, you can control them using EMU’s audio to DMX or Art-Net output.

ENTTEC has partnered with Crescit to give all EMU Premium users an industry leading fixture library that receives regular updates. Crescit is a company with a background in developing software to help professional lighting designers research, compile, manage and share production information. They endeavour to add all known fixtures to their database.

With Crescit’s vast fixture library integrated into EMU, this makes laboriously creating custom fixture profiles to control your equipment a thing of the past.

If you find your fixture is missing from EMU’s library – simply add a request using the EMU forum with information for a member of the team to get it added.

Note: All unsubscribed users have access to the generic & ENTTEC fixture library.

MIDI integration

EMU’s MIDI learn functionality allows for its controls to be either mapped to physical MIDI control hardware or software applications using a virtual MIDI loopback adaptor. When EMU has been linked to a MIDI input, toggling between the previous or next program or bank with external software is easy.

EMU even features the ability to view incoming MIDI Events to help you troubleshoot your configuration!

For users that want more direct control over every attribute in their show, EMU supports 1:1 fader mapping to an external MIDI; control level in real time for precise detail.

Stay in Rhythm. Always in Sync.

For those taking advantage of EMU’s inbuilt oscillators, use MIDI clock or use tap tempo through MIDI CC or a to set the global speed and synchronise all show file oscillators effortlessly in real time.

VST3 plugin

EMU offers Windows 32-bit and 64-bit VST3 or macOS 64-bit VST3 and AudioUnit v2 plugins capable of syncing the master playback state from your favourite DAW with the main EMU application, controlling program and bank changes directly from your DAW.

For users that want precise control over every attribute in their show, EMU allows for individual faders to be mapped 1:1 to the VST3 plugin to control every last detail.

Tempo is automatically synced from your DAW to EMU using the VST plugin, allowing those taking advantage of EMU’s inbuilt oscillators to ensure that all effects are in sync with the tempo even if it’s being changed live. EMU will care of everything, allowing you to concentrate on the show itself.

Reaction to live audio

EMU’s Sound Tracker functionality allows you to set your lights to react directly to live audio. Define audio reactivity in certain programs by taking an audio input from a soundcard, microphone or virtual loopback adapter to accentuate and give particular elements of your show an even greater impact. Making it a great sound to light controller

Filter by frequency band, simply set a default level and an attack/release time for each individual fader – then you’re away!

Monitor Incoming data

EMU is more than just a great accompaniment for live performance.

Use it to monitor incoming Art-Net data from 3rd party sources, or determine what Art-Net devices are on your network. Monitor the Art-Net output from EMU.

An interface

You’ll need a DMX > USB interface in order to connect lights to your computer, and there are plenty of flexible output options available to do that.

ENTTEC’s proven DMX USB Pro hardware is the perfect device to output data directly from your computer for your audio to DMX setup using USB.

EMU allows access to all configuration options within the DMX USB Pro or DMX USB Pro Mk2 including monitoring, firmware updates and in the case of the Pro Mk2, the ability to record standalone shows onto it from either a DMX or ArtNet source.

Or you can expand your setup over a network using ENTTEC’s ODE Mk3.

These devices offer full 1000V data and power isolation protection. For example, if someone were to foolishly plug a phantom-powered mic cable into your interface, this feature will work to protect your computer or network infrastructure from damage.

If you already have your own ArtNet interface, you can use that too. And if you’re a DMXIS user, your existing breakout box will also do the trick.

Lights!

Similarly to DMXIS, you’re going to need some light fixtures as well. Whether you want to use LED strips, PAR cans, moving head fixtures or anything else you can dream of, any DMX fixture by any manufacturer will work with EMU. ENTTEC offer an array of, LED pixel strip options, you might want to check some of these out too while you’re shopping …

At ENTTEC, we’re dedicated to providing an amazing future for EMU.

Our software development team are working around the clock alongside our Beta testers, pushing boundaries to create new features and continually improve every aspect of EMU’s functionality.

Although you may not know it yet, our R&D team and hardware engineers have also been beavering away in the background, preparing for the release of a USB > DMX breakout box especially designed for musicians to use with EMU.

If it was up to us here at ENTTEC, we’d have this ready to ship out to you today. But thanks to the ongoing global electrical components shortage, things are a little trickier than usual.

We’re always committed to giving you the best piece of tech we can, using only the finest components we can source. Nothing has changed here. A dedicated EMU box is coming your way as soon as we’re able to make it for you. It’ll be a great price too – and you’re going to love it. Watch this space!

Meanwhile, check out internet lighting guru David Henry from Learn Stage Lighting’s take on this current situation in the video below. Whether you’re currently enjoying EMU, or are still using DMXIS, you’ll find a lot of handy information here.
